What Identification Should You Bring to a Notary Appointment?

A current, unexpired government-issued photo ID—such as a driver's license, state-issued ID card, or passport—is typically accepted for notarization.

The identification must contain a photograph and a signature, and the name should match the name on the document being notarized.

Name mismatches can prevent a notarization. If your ID name differs from the document name, let MSS know before the appointment so we can discuss what may be possible.

A notary cannot notarize using identification that does not reasonably identify the signer.

Without acceptable identification, the notarization cannot be completed. You will need to reschedule and bring valid ID to the next appointment.

To avoid a wasted trip, double-check your ID before leaving for an office appointment, and confirm every signer has theirs before a mobile visit.
